Which is a slightly silly thing for a nutritionist who sends you emails about postpartum nutrition to say isn’t it?! But hear me out!!

You can Google “foods high in iron”.

You can search “postpartum hair loss”.

You can save as many Instagram posts as you like about protein, hormones, supplements and what you’re ‘apparently’ supposed to be eating (or not) while breastfeeding.

The information is there. For sure!

And yet I speak to so many mums who still don’t know:

But what actually matters for me?

Because knowing that iron matters is one thing. But knowing whether your exhaustion, hair loss, feeling freezing cold or generally feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus is something worth looking into is something different.

And figuring out if you’re getting enough iron or what a portion of protein looks like is another thing too!

And I think this is one of the biggest gaps in the way we support women after birth. There’s a lot of support for pregnancy and birth. Postpartum not so much. Sure you get information, but then you’re left to work it out for yourself, when you’re exhausted and trying to keep a tiny human alive too, never mind yourself!

I’ve been thinking about this A LOT while I’ve been building The Nourished Village. Consciously I’ve kept information short and sweet and created somewhere you can come and understand:

What’s actually happening in my body?

What does my body need right now?

What matters for me and what can I stop worrying about?

How do I make any of this work in the life I’m actually living?

That’s why I’m building it around four things:

Personalised nutrition.
Recovery.
Education.
Reassurance.

Not in a “you must follow all of this perfectly” kind of way either. But I want you to have somewhere you can stop piecing your postpartum recovery together from Google searches, Instagram posts and the occasional “that’s just postpartum”.

Because “that’s common after having a baby” should never have been the end of the conversation.

And I think the more I build this, the more I realise that’s really what I want The Nourished Village to do:

help you learn how to care for the woman motherhood created.

I’ll tell you more about it soon.

But for now, I’m curious.

What’s the ONE thing about your body or recovery postpartum that you wish someone would just help you make sense of?

I’m Kimberley

Hiii, I’m Kimberley.

Certified Nutrition Consultant. Mum. History geek. Terrible cook. And someone who thinks we’ve got postpartum preparation completely backwards.

I knew a lot about looking after myself before I became a mum.

And then I became one.

Knowing what would probably be good for you and actually managing to do it when you’re exhausted, recovering and responsible for a tiny human are two very different things.

That’s a huge part of why this work exists.

My background is in nutrition, but I don’t believe postpartum wellbeing starts and ends with what’s on your plate.

Food is important..but so is sleep, recovery, movement, stress, support, your relationships and the enormous identity shift that happens when you become somebody’s mum.

I also don’t believe there’s one correct version of motherhood.

Breastfeed. Bottle feed. Mix feed.

Have the epidural.

Don’t have the epidural.

Live a bit crunchy.

Get the Botox.

Buy the good coffee.

I want you to have good information, understand your options and feel confident making the decisions that are right for you.

And when something sits outside my scope?

I’ll tell you.
