The Nourished Village is Open!

I built the Nourished Village because I don’t think women should spend pregnancy preparing for the baby while barely preparing for themselves. We prepare for birth. We buy the things the baby needs. We think about feeding, sleeping, nappies, car seats and tiny clothes. But who is preparing you for the weeks afterwards? Who do…

I wish someone had told me this in my first postpartum

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what we’re actually taught to expect when we have a baby. In fact you might say I’m obsessed. There’s so much preparation. There’s all the tiny clothes, the hospital bag, choosing the car seat, thinking about where the baby will sleep and how we’re going to feed them.…

You can google pretty much anything…

What should I eat after birth? Why am I soooo thirsty while breastfeeding? Is this much hair loss normal? What nutrients do I need? Why am I just so sweaty? You’ll get answers. But you’ll get SO many of them! One person on a blog says this, another on insta says the opposite. There’s mumsnet and Reddit threads from…

Tea and Toast

I was working on The Nourished Village the other day specifically around those first 72 hours after birth and what might actually be useful to eat when your body is recovering, and I ended up going down a bit of a rabbit hole. Because I kept coming back to the same thought: Why are we…

The nutrition advice she wasn’t expecting

I worked with a mum who was about five months postpartum. She had an older child, she was breastfeeding a baby with an allergy, she was absolutely knackered and food had become another thing she felt like she needed to get right. And I think when she came to me, she expected me (as the…

I don’t think you need more postpartum information

Which is a slightly silly thing for a nutritionist who sends you emails about postpartum nutrition to say isn’t it?! But hear me out!! You can Google “foods high in iron”. You can search “postpartum hair loss”. You can save as many Instagram posts as you like about protein, hormones, supplements and what you’re ‘apparently’…

But what can I actually do about hairloss?

Earlier this week I talked about postpartum hair loss and why I don’t love reducing it down to one nutrient, one deficiency or one magic supplement. But obviously that raises the question…Okay Kimberley, so what CAN I actually do to support my body? And this is where I think postpartum nutrition gets massively overcomplicated. Because…

Postpartum Hairloss

I’ve talked a lot about the bits nobody wants to hear when it comes to hair loss: you can’t completely stop the normal hormonal postpartum shed.  But just because something is normal or hormonal, doesn’t mean there isn’t anything you can do to support regrowth and to minimise the amount of hair you’re losing. Postpartum…

Eat the good strawberries

I don’t know when I started doing this but at some point after becoming a mum, I apparently decided my daughter should get all the good strawberries. You know the ones. Perfectly red. No weird squishy bit. PERFECT leaves (even though we don’t eat that bit) Elite strawberry.  Hers. All hers. And I’d eat the…

I was tired and hosting

When my daughter was born, we had a LOT of visitors.  I remember coming downstairs and there would just be… more people. Again and again and again. There was just always more people ALL the time.  Everyone obviously wanted to meet the baby, hold the baby, talk about the baby. Give me their opinion about…

We spend months preparing for birth…

One of the things I’ve learnt after supporting hundreds of mothers is this: We spend months preparing for birth. Very little time preparing for the woman we’re becoming. Motherhood and postpartum is one of the biggest transformations we’ll ever experience, yet so few of us are prepared for what comes afterwards. But imagine moving through…

Your baby needs you, not perfection

Can we all agree that we were all perfect parents before we actually became one? I thought I knew exactly the type of mum I’d be. I had it alllll planned out. I thought being a good mum meant being self-sacrificing, bouncing back straight away, keeping the house immaculate, buying only organic vegetables, and never,…

Pregnancy Foods: Fact vs. Fiction

Cutting through the noise on what’s actually safe to eat and drink during pregnancy, with real evidence-based guidance. I spent most of Saturday at the library, and honestly? It was the reset I didn’t know I needed. I’ve rediscovered my love of reading and it’s been such a joy to slow down and just be…

Your body deserves support too

Postpartum nutrition, personalised for you. One call, a real plan, no guesswork. You’re eating cold toast standing over the sink. You’ve forgotten to drink water again. You pulled out another handful of hair in the shower this morning and told yourself it was fine, totally normal, this is just what happens as a mum. And…

Small Shifts, Big Changes

When life feels full to the brim, a little simplicity goes a long way. Here’s what’s been on my mind this week. Honestly? This week has been a lot. Sports day, May Queen celebrations, activities stacked on activities, and all the planning that comes with the run-up to summer holidays. The kind of week where…

summer sips & swollen ankles

Well, it has been a week (and we’re nearly there)! Between client calls, recipe testing (more on that below), and trying to convince myself that the heat is actually enjoyable, I have been keeping very busy over here. If you are pregnant right now, first of all, you are absolutely incredible. Growing a human in…

Folic acid vs folate, what nobody told you

This week on Instagram I talked about something I really wish I’d understood before I got pregnant. Folic acid and folate. They sound like the same thing. They’re not quite. And the difference is one of those small things that’s reallllly worth knowing if you’re trying to conceive or sat in your first trimester right…

You’re the first to hear about this one, friend.

If you’re pregnant right now you’re probably living on toast, plain pasta, maybe the occasional cracker if you’re feeling brave. You’ve googled “is it bad that I’m not eating vegetables” more times than you’d like to admit, usually around 2am, usually followed by twelve more tabs and zero answers. And somewhere in there, you’ve started…

I’m Kimberley

Hiii, I’m Kimberley.

Certified Nutrition Consultant. Mum. History geek. Terrible cook. And someone who thinks we’ve got postpartum preparation completely backwards.

I knew a lot about looking after myself before I became a mum.

And then I became one.

Knowing what would probably be good for you and actually managing to do it when you’re exhausted, recovering and responsible for a tiny human are two very different things.

That’s a huge part of why this work exists.

My background is in nutrition, but I don’t believe postpartum wellbeing starts and ends with what’s on your plate.

Food is important..but so is sleep, recovery, movement, stress, support, your relationships and the enormous identity shift that happens when you become somebody’s mum.

I also don’t believe there’s one correct version of motherhood.

Breastfeed. Bottle feed. Mix feed.

Have the epidural.

Don’t have the epidural.

Live a bit crunchy.

Get the Botox.

Buy the good coffee.

I want you to have good information, understand your options and feel confident making the decisions that are right for you.

And when something sits outside my scope?

I’ll tell you.

Let’s connect

Preparing for a baby?

Don’t forget to prepare for the bit where you come home with one.
Get practical pregnancy + postpartum support, things I wish someone had told me, and really bloody useful ways to make the first few months easier.
